The Stare Miasto or "Old City" was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War. It has

been rebuilt. At its center lies the Rynek or Market Square which serves as a wonderful gathering

place for citizens and visitors, young and old. In the center of the square is the Mermaid, the symbol

of Warsaw.
